Snow Machine Issue at Skyline

Postby Kenny » Sun Jan 27, 2008 4:59 pm

The new parking lot is really nice, but it has brought a lot more snow machine traffic to the hill.

We need to come up with a solution for the sleds. I saw lines run over again and lots of snow machines trying to negotiate their way between kites. It would be nice to have a big sign posted and a snow machine free area designated. I personally would chip in some bucks for a sign if we could get it approved by the proper authorities.

Either that or we stash some bamboo poles and caution tape up there.

Any other ideas/

i think the bamboo poles and tape are the best bet. a sign never keeps people out only a physical object that would inhibit the riders. i try to make sure my lines are always rolled up just in case. the sled necks dont really care anyway.

Use Caution Tape

Postby Marty Lowe » Wed Jan 30, 2008 3:26 pm

Throw caution to the wind...literally.

I always roll up my lines now,
but when I use to leave them out,

I had about 75 feet of BRIGHT YELLOW thin plastic caution tape,
I would hang on to one end, the wind would unroll the tape.
Leave it attached to the bar, if kite is straight downwind of the bar.
Or attach to the kite, if the bar is downwind from the kite.

Then just roll it up and stick it in my pocket.

Maybe police "DO NOT CROSS, CRIME SCENE" would get their attention.

Marty,

That is a good idea.

This past weekend it was hard because the sled riders were trying to go around all the kites laid out. If they would just avoid that whole area, it would make things so much easier, but that is probably asking too much from that group.
