2/4 PC - EBA Part 2

Postby Kenny » Tue Feb 05, 2008 3:26 pm

It is a good thing that I don't have any scrub oak in my yard after yesterday's adventure. Arrived to great wind, 6" powder over a very deep base and partly cloudy skies around 3:45 in the afternoon.

Jake was gliding the big hill at the far SE corner. It is a very long and sweet glide. Jake does it with style. I had to give it a try, but I found it hard to get up the hill due to the scrub oak (one tip drag and its over for a foil kite). I had one nice glide down the hill and after riding around a bit I decided to give it another go. I took a different tack on the hill and it worked great at first. My only mistake is that I decided that I wanted to go to the top of the hill. I turned my kite a little too low and got caught in the scrub oak. Thus, began Epic Brush Adventure part 2. Scrub oak grabs bridle lines like velcro, it is a pain in the backside to free them. Spent a long time freeing the kite and then setting it up in a relatively brush-free area. I was all ready to go when a gust of wind caught one side of my kite and turned it completely over so that it was entangled again in scrub oak. This time I packed up the kite completely, rode to the bottom of the hill and set up the kite again in the fading light of the day. Managed to launch the kite and ride about 1/3 of the way back when the kite suddenly folded. One of my bridles was not right, so I packed up the kite and walked back in the dark in knee-deep snow with the occasional post hole to your waist. I was glad to see my truck at 7:15.

The snow coverage is getting really good at PC. Just need a brush fire next summer to eliminate the scrub oak.

I'm glad you got back to your truck okay. I had to leave as I got back to my car. At least you had someone waiting for you at Parking lot. 8)
