4/3 Rush 16M

Postby MikE mAy » Thu Apr 03, 2008 10:01 pm

got my first water ride of the season in and it was cold! arrived at rush at 4:30 to marginal winds. i bet the final readings where average of like 9-12 with gusts to 17-20ish. rode my 16 waroo for a couple hours till i had to stop becuase i couldn't feel my fingers anymore. 5-4 wetsuit was just fine with booties, but could have used some gloves. Todd said his fingers were cold even with his gloves. the thermometer on my car read 46 when i started it up. Jason came and cheered us on for a bit, but left becuase it was quite cold, and i can't say i blame him. if it werent for the 10 minute gusts up to powered riding i woudl have packed it in much earlier.

cold, but great first sesh back in the water. at this point, i'd rather deal with the cold than the hard ice.

speaking of ice, how is the snowpack holding up at strawbs? anybody care to report? iced out, or did the recent powder hold up there with the colder weather we've been having?

Strawberry River still has excellent coverage, although the snow is a bit crusty.

Do you see my foot prints? Must have just missed ya all, I left around 4:00 I had about about 3 hours of slog, plane, and relaunch. Nice, not cold at all. Gloves, booties and Dry suit. Must have cooled off after I left, maybe a little winder too. I was on 13M Instinct Sport II and GLIDE. Lots of brids at North end of lake. Fence is still an issue.

fence is a BIG BIG issue. that area is my comfort zone, at least in mediocre winds liek that. i don't like to walk long distances or self land my kite on the ground and get everthing muddy if i end up downwind. during teh brief lulls, i found myself getting short tacks becuase i was getting too close to the fence and that made gettign back upwind a big pain in the butt. the fence must go! i got a closer look at it yesterday, and it is metal poles, with sharp edges and what appreared to be barbed wire between the posts. at very least, wires that were above and below the surface... boo!

anyway, heading back out today if the wind looks good. it will be interesting to see how things go on a south with the fence...

Les has contacted Randy H.
according to Les, he sounded very interested in our fence concerns,
and is easy to talk with.

Les is unable to go meet with him.

I have Randy's phone number and have left him a message.
When he returns my call, we (UWA) will make a plan.

I'm leaving for Rush soon also.
