Another surprise session :-P

Forcast showed today as having warmer air so it was worth a shot.

Arrived around 2 to slight caps. Rigged and hit the water by 2:30. By then it was not slight at all. I Wish I had packed my 6.6 along. Over powered for about an hour, shore to shore rides. I didn’t dare try a Jibe. I didn’t want to freeze! Also I needed the rest break a tack can give (love the wind shadow on the south end of Island Beach.) The next hours wind was down a bit to a nice 7.5 or so. By then I had crashed enough to realize that for me and my natural insulation, 3/2 was going to be enough rubber for the days “warmer” winds. Tried a few jibes… nope. But Jim was ripping it up and 4 or 5 kites also out at Barbed Beach.

I Love the carbon boom. It was a huge change. My Chinook triple clamp was maxed out on my 7.5, and it had lots of flex, conversely the HPL Carbon was at nearly no extension and solid as a rock. I think it really helped to plane through the lulls and handle the gusts better, but I will have to get used to the quick response, WOW :|| Thanks again Mike. Also Jim offered to lend me a Jibe DVD. Hope it can penetrate my thick skull. Lots of great people in the wind sports! Oh and a question, what can you do about toe wedgies. Need the booties, but ouch! The foot straps and booties conspired to jam my toes into one solid mass. Not fun.

Hey Shawn, just an idea. Maybe try neoprene socks instead of booties. Im not sure how the windsurfer setup is as far as straps go but I tried the socks kiting at BB today and it made an amazing difference. You can get a pair at the scuba shop on 2400 south and 9th east in SLC. They're about 20 dollars.

Very pleasant day temperature wise: 59F both air and water. Once again,
Craig nailed the forecast.

Yup, a very nice after work surprise for me as well. Flew my 14 with Billy, Peter and Trevor. I didn't get there till a little before 4, but still had a great time. To finish though, I think I snapped one of my leaders while jumping. The safety release activated and my kite went downwind a ways. Luckinly Trevor was around. He chased the kite down, and then Peter was even nice enough to walk out and help me carry everything back. Funny though, how losing a 12 inch section of cord makes your rig unflyable. Still, well worth it! :))
