Forcast showed today as having warmer air so it was worth a shot.
Arrived around 2 to slight caps. Rigged and hit the water by 2:30. By then it was not slight at all. I Wish I had packed my 6.6 along. Over powered for about an hour, shore to shore rides. I didn’t dare try a Jibe. I didn’t want to freeze! Also I needed the rest break a tack can give (love the wind shadow on the south end of Island Beach.) The next hours wind was down a bit to a nice 7.5 or so. By then I had crashed enough to realize that for me and my natural insulation, 3/2 was going to be enough rubber for the days “warmer†winds. Tried a few jibes… nope. But Jim was ripping it up and 4 or 5 kites also out at Barbed Beach.
I Love the carbon boom. It was a huge change. My Chinook triple clamp was maxed out on my 7.5, and it had lots of flex, conversely the HPL Carbon was at nearly no extension and solid as a rock. I think it really helped to plane through the lulls and handle the gusts better, but I will have to get used to the quick response, WOW
